6 Features of Facebook’s New Timeline
Today I had some fun playing around with the new Facebook Timeline. Here are some of the new features you can expect to see in the coming weeks:
1. Large album cover photo:
If you’re using Facebook mainly for business like I am, I would suggest using this space to connect your personal profile to your business. You can choose any photo, and Facebook then allows you to drag the photo around until it appears the way that you want it.
2. New Facebook Updates – Family & Relationships
Facebook updates now have different “categories” – here is a look at the options within the “Family & Relationships” category: Got Engaged, Got Married, Add a Child, Add a Pet, even “Lost a Loved One” .. these should be interesting!
3. New Facebook Updates – Living
Facebook updates now have different “categories” – here is a look at the options within the “Living” category: Moved, Bought a Home, Add a Roommate, or Add a Vehicle.
4. New Facebook Updates – Health & Wellness
A look at Facebook Timeline’s new “Health & Wellness” category: post updates if you Broke a Bone, Had Surgery or Overcame an Illness .. interesting choices for pre-set options.
5. New Facebook Updates – Milestones & Experiences
Facebook’s “Milestones & Experiences” category allows you to categorize updates as Learned a Language, Got a License, Traveled, or Achievement or Award.
6. New Facebook Updates – Other Life Event
If none of the above categories suit your update, you can always add your own life event with the “Other Life Event” option. This will allow you to provide information about the event, the location, who you were with, when it happened, a picture, and a story. You are still able to select who can see these updates with the drop down menu.
Some very interesting changes, here. Facebook is definitely getting a little more personal!
Is it too much of an invasion of privacy? Do you think it’s too many details to put out there? Of course, you can click the top right hand corner of any post and choose to “Hide from Timeline”, but that could be a pretty lengthy task depending on how long you’ve had an account and how many updates you’ve posted over the past few years!
I also noticed that the ads are here to stay. The “Sponsored” ads still appear along the side of your new Timeline.
It will be very interesting to see what kind of changes (if any) are coming for Facebook Pages. What do you think about this new look and these new changes?
Until next time,
